Celebrating Montana Soil Health Day & Week

Today, April 2, 2025, is Montana Soil Health Day, kicking off Montana Soil Health Week! At Cherrywood Orchard, we’re proud to steward our soil to grow healthier cherries and fruit, boost crop yields, strengthen food security, build climate resiliency, and enhance nutrition. Healthy soil benefits us all—and we’re committed to making it happen right here in Montana.

We source local compost from the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park, spreading it across our orchard to enrich the earth. Paired with cover crops, this approach adds vital nutrients, improves moisture retention, and creates a thriving foundation for more nutritious harvests.

Recently, Tiffany joined fellow regenerative agriculture advocates at the Regenerative Agriculture Summit North America. There, she connected with others passionate about cover cropping, sustainable management, and the six principles of soil health: minimize disturbance, maximize diversity, keep living roots, armor the soil, adapt to context, integrate livestock, and stay committed. These principles guide us every day at Cherrywood Orchard.

Why does soil health matter? Healthy soil cleans the air, retains water to combat drought, and grows more nutritious food. It’s the root of a stronger, more resilient Montana. Join us in celebrating #MontanaSoilHealthWeek—because healthy soil is true to our roots!
